一、基本情况Background Information

【1】印度尼西亚位居太平洋板块、印度-澳大利亚板块，欧亚大陆板块的交界，全国至少有150座活火山。2004年印度洋大地震即在北苏门答腊造成约超过16万人丧生。但火山灰肥沃土壤对于农业有相当贡献，并支持爪哇岛及巴厘岛高密度的人口。

【1】Geographically, Indonesia is located at the junction of Pacific plate, Indo-Australian Plate and Eurasia plate , with at least 150 active volcanoes. The 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake cost more than 160 thousand casualties in North Sumatra. On the other hand, the fertile soil, a by-product of the volcanic ashes, makes it the natural asset for the local agriculture to support the High-density population in the Island of Java and Island of Bali.

【2】印度尼西亚有数百个不同民族及语言，最大的族群为爪哇族，并在政治上居主导地位。国家语言、种族多样性、穆斯林占多数人口、殖民历史及反抗殖民为印度尼西亚人的共同身份。印度尼西亚国家格言“Bhinneka Tunggal Ika”（存异求同）阐明了多样性及国家的型态。印度尼西亚官方语言为印度尼西亚语，基本词汇与语法结构和马来语相同。

【2】Indonesia consists of hundreds of distinct native ethnic and linguistic groups, with the largest—and politically dominant—ethnic group being the Javanese.  The shared identity of Indonesian people has developed, with the national language, ethnic diversity, religious pluralism within a Muslim-majority population, and a history of colonialism and rebellion against it. The national motto, "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika" ("Unity in Diversity" literally, "many, yet one") presents the diversity that shapes the country. The official language is Indonesian, or Bahasa Indonesia, which has the identical basic vocabulary and grammatical structure with Malay.  

【3】万岛之国。地理教科书描述印度尼西亚是千岛之国，其实是低估了！事实上，印尼有1.75万个岛屿，从西到东，疆域绵延四千八百公里。在当地有多年经验的朋友介绍：“多看地图！” 看地图是个了解印尼的捷径。印尼是群岛国家，地域广大，对于外国人而言光是记住这些地名是个很困难的事。但是反过来，只要那些地名能记住，对印尼就已经有了足够的认知了。

【3】A country of ten thousand islands. Some textbooks have underestimated the number of islands in Indonesia by calling it “The country of thousand islands”. In fact, its territory, measured from east to west, is more than 4800 kilometers, consisting about 17,500 islands. Well-travelled people suggest “Read more maps” because reading maps is indeed the shortcut to a better understanding of Indonesia, as its huge size with numerous islands makes it extremely difficult for expatriates to remember the names of the different places. However, if you make an effort, remembering the names of those places may provide you with sufficient knowledge about this country.

【4】穆斯林国家。总人口2.6 亿，是人口最多的东盟国家。以人口数量计算，紧随中国、印度及美国之后，世界第四人口大国，也是世界上穆斯林人口最多的国家。

【4】 A Muslim populated country. The 260 million people in Indonesia make it the Number 1 ASEAN country in terms of population, ranking number 4, after China, India, and the USA. Within that population, also the most populous Muslim country in the world.

【5】经济现况。印尼是东盟十国中最大的经济体。服务业及工业是印尼主要的经济推动力，分别占国内生产总值(GDP)的 46%和40%，农业则占余下的14%。主要行业有制造业(烟草、食品饮料、交通运输设备及机械)、采矿、建筑、交通及通讯、金融和房地产。在2007年至2016年，印尼经济每年平均增长6%，是东盟表现佼佼者。

【5】Economics.  The biggest economy in ASEAN is Indonesia, where service and industry sectors are the main driving forces of the economy, representing 46% and 40% of the GDP ( Gross Domestic Product) respectively, while agriculture occupies the remaining 14%. The main industries are manufacturing ( tobacco, food and drinks, transportation equipment and machinery), mining, construction, transport and communication, finance and real estate. From 2007 to 2016, the economy grew at an average rate of 6%, performing extremely well among the ASEAN countries.
